Coming to a screen near you: LIS Reads – LIS Lê

When I discovered we had to make a movie for the third COETAIL course, I was thrilled because I knew I would have to force myself to take my photos of our LIS Reads September celebration and tell the story in a movie.  I was incredibly lucky to have Ju as our official photographer and filmmaker for the LIS Reads – LIS Lê Kick-Off celebration we held at the beginning of the month.  You can see her far superior creation embedded on her Stepping Stones blog as well as on our LIS secondary library blog.  After watching what she created, I though it would be nice to post the videos for the kick-off celebration and the end of the month lunchtime celebration of Wonder on the library blog.  Hopefully we will also share these through the homeroom classes to drum up and interest in our year of reading.

Upon reflection, I wish I’d videotaped students’s responses to the mini book club questions so that there could be video as part of this film.  However, I am pleased overall with the final product.  Luckily, with LIS Reads – LIS Lê, there’s always next month!

    • Hi Jeff,

That’s so true! I am excited for the process of the course 5 project. I want to try to do something combining the implementation of the Big6 and some supporting technology tools, so student reflection as part of the process would be perfect.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Hi Katy,
It’s been a busy semester, and I’m just having time now to go through everyone’s blogs to see their videos. As you know, I love “Wonder” as well.
The Wonder Event looked like a great success. You put a lot of time and effort into it (and I’m sure into the video celebrating the event).
Do you plan an event for each of the monthly LIS Reads books? Is it at night or during the school day? Do you parents or other community members get involved? At my previous school, we did something like this, but it was “One Book, One Community”. I love the idea of promoting community reading throughout the whole school year.
I look forward to collaborating with you and reading about all the great things you are doing in Course 4!

    • Hi Julie,

It was a LOT of fun, but you are right. It also took a lot of planning. Our first event, the kick-off one, was in the evening and it was for all members of our community. Now each month there is a celebration at the end of the month in the library for the books of the month. it takes place during lunch, and it usually has food, discussion questions (we write the answers instead of talking because there’s a lot going on in the library) and something creative. The October was quite simple, particularly because we had October break in the middle. I am hoping to expand on our November celebration a bit.

Upon reflection, it probably would have been a good idea for me to do just one book this year and expand next year, but biting off more than I can chew is kind of my thing. 🙂

Next year I am going to try to integrate it even more with the classes, but so far this year it’s been pretty successful.

It’s going to be a great COETAIL 4! Let’s find something to work together on.
